What is Mobile-Responsive Website Design?

Each year 2009, we have seen an increase in people visiting websites via their mobile phone. In 2018, 52% of all global web pages were accessed via mobile phones. That is why mobile-responsive website design is critical for small business success.
So what is mobile-friendly website design?
Simply put, a mobile-friendly website is one that is functional on a small screen. The touch controls are easy to use, and the information displays nicely in a smaller view without the user having to zoom in.
There are many different aspects to think about when it comes to mobile-responsive website design. These include:
- A responsive display. What the user should not see is a zoomed out version of your desktop site. The sections of your website should scale in a way that displays nicely on mobile.
- Readable font. On a small screen, the small font is going to be even harder to read. I personally like to make sure paragraph text is at least 16px, and that nothing is any smaller than this. Sans serif fonts are easier to read on screens because of the screen resolution and their less complex shape.
- Responsive images. Obviously, a 1200px wide image is not going to fit on a mobile device screen that is approximately 768px wide. Images should scale down to fit the screen size so the user is able to view the entire image.
- Quick load time. It is no secret that people are impatient. Ideally, all web pages should load in under two seconds. Longer load times make it more likely that a user will bounce.
As more people browse the internet on mobile devices, it is essential that your website design is easy to navigate on a small screen. Does your business need a mobile-responsive website design? The professionals at Tipsy Social are here to help! Learn more.
